Indoor/Outdoor Olympic Game Options
(**) Indicates the option for ice-breakers/refreshers
Over and Under**: Team lines up in single file
lines facing the judge. The first player takes one of the rolls
of toilet tissue, unwraps it, and passes the roll under his/her
legs to the next player, who passes it over his/her shoulder to
the next person, continuing the over-under sequence until the last
player gets the roll. He/she wraps the tissue around his/her waist
and passes the roll back down the line, again over and under, until
the first person gets the roll back. If the roll should break, the
second roll must be used. If the second roll breaks, the team is
disqualified. The team finishing first wins.
Dizzy Lizzy: Participants run to the bat, put their forehead
on the bat and spin around five times, then run back to their team
to tag-off for the next person to go.
Great Balls of Fun: Two team members race while
holding a basketball between their backs. The first team to relay
all participants to the finish line without dropping the ball will
win. No hands allowed!
Bubble Challenge: Participants run up field,
open a piece of gum, blow a bubble and return to tag off the next
player. First team to finish wins.
Tennis Ball Pass**: Team members form a line
and must pass 10 tennis balls down the line and drop them into the
bucket at the end. The trick is only the first person may use their
hands to initially place the ball under his/her chin. The balls
are passed chin to chin down the line.
Pally Wally Relay: A take-off of the 4-legged
water race without the water. Three team players with his/her ankles
tied together, run up the field around a cone and back. To make
it more interesting we blindfold the middle player; the middle player
cannot be carried.
Egg Toss: Each team pairs off and faces each
other in a giant line. Each team will have several pairs representing
its team. Players toss an egg back and forth to their teammate moving
further and further away from one another until only one pair remains.
Golf Chipping: Dividing the lawn into
four chipping ranges with a set-up of series of circles going for
smallest inside to larger outside; balls chipped into the smaller
circles carry higher point amounts than those in the larger circles.
Team members take turns with only a certain number of balls per
person.
Longest Drive:
A variation of the above-mentioned
"golf chipping" each participant takes a turn hitting
a marshmallow with a golf club. Sounds easy but it is not. The longest
drive wins!
Hip Hugger: Two members of a team at
one time must squeeze a beach ball between them (no hands allowed
on either the ball or partner) and run to a cone, around it, and
back to the starting point, pass the ball off to the next pair,
(again using no hands) and so on.
Egg and Spoon:
Members of each team have an egg on a spoon with the arm extended
out. Each team member runs around a cone and back to the starting
point and passes on to the next team member, if the egg is dropped
at any time the team member responsible must return to the starting
point and goes again. First team finished WINS!
Fuzzy Bunny**: Who in your group has
the biggest marshmallow mouth? This event will let you know, as
the goal is to fill your mouth with gooey fun and repeat the "fuzzy
bunny" phrase.
Tug-O-War: Match strength with this popular
O.E. Olympic sport. Each group will compete against each other until
all but one team is eliminated.
Trolley Walk:
With long pieces of wood and rope
handles, each team must move together on the trolleys to a predetermined
point. A great team-building challenge!
Four-Legged Water Race: A fun challenge
to this event is requiring the middle person to be blindfolded and
each team member to carry a cup of water while running the course.
The winners of the event have to finish and have some water left
over. Every one in the group must go at least once.
Team members must pair up in threes. The middle person must tie
a bandana around both his/her individual legs, including the outside
team members leg. They must proceed down the field, around
the cone and back. Remove the tie; pass it and the cup to the next
trio until everyone has gone at least one time. The team that finishes
first and with the most water wins.
Sponge It Up: The object is to relay
as much water in the sponge as possible until the empty bucket is
full while team members stand stationary. The first team to fill
a bucket wins. Each team will have one bucket full with water at
one end, one empty bucket at the other end and provided with a sponge
at one of the ends. Set up assembly line style with the groups in
single file line in the middle. Each team will start at one end
filling the sponge and passing it down to the other end; to be squeezed
out into the bucket and then passing off the sponge back and forth,
over and over until the empty bucket is full. The source buckets
may not be moved. The team who has the full bucket of water and
is sitting single file first will win.
Chariots of Fire: Each team will line
up in single file line. A leader is chosen who will give verbal
clues to direct the team members through the course. Each team member
will need to be lead through the course blindfolded until all members
are through the course. One member will be chosen by the team as
the "leader". This person will be giving verbal clues
to the blinded teammate to assist in navigating the course. The
remainder of the team is silent. The leader will direct the blindfolded
member to each dot, around the cone and back to each dot again and
back to "home". The blindfolded team member will pass
the blindfold to the next member at the completion of his/her turn
and so on. Each member will then be lead through the course and
back until all members have gone through the course. If teams are
not equal, the teams with fewer members will go again to make it
even.
The use of hands is not permitted other than to initially
assist with tying the blindfold and for safety reasons. If a blindfolded
member is in danger, the term "freeze" should be used
to let them know not to move. The team who has completed the task
and is sitting single file first wins.
Water Balloon Toss:
Each team pairs off and faces each other in a giant line. Each team
will have several pairs representing its team. Players toss a water
balloon back and forth to their teammate moving further and further
away from one another until only one pair remains.
Balloon Stomp: Relay style, each member
runs up to the start, blows up the balloon, and then stomps it flat.
The first team to finish wins.
Tissue Paper Race**: Relay style, blow
through a straw to keep a square piece of tissue (or balloon) aloft
from start to finish and/or around the cone and back. Then pass
off to the member until everyone has gone at least once.
Stand up**:
All groups will pair off, players sit back to back, with locked
arms. Their feat is to stand up together and then as one large group.
The group to complete this task first will win.
Fitness Obstacle Course:
A course with continuous activities. Each group goes one at a time.
Examples: sit-ups, push-ups, hula-hoops, crab walk, wheelbarrow
walk, run in tires, etc
Everyone in the group must complete
each obstacle, the group finished in the least amount of time wins.
Mishmash Relay: This event is run as
an obstacle course. One person at a time from each group will go
through the course. Participants must chew a cracker, blow a whistle,
run to a baseball bat circle 3 times around while touching their
head to the bat, dribble a basketball ball through and around cones,
blow up a balloon and pop it. After popping the balloon, the next
player runs through the course until everyone in the group has gone.
The fastest team wins.
Group Knots**:
To start, participants stand in a circle shoulder to shoulder. Each
person then reaches across the circle and locks one hand with the
hand of another person. Next, reach across with the free hand; lock
that hand with a different person than the first. The task is to
untangle the circle without unlocking any hands. The team to finish
first without unlocking hands wins.
Centipede Shuffle: Teams line up in relay
formation, walks/runs to the opposite end around a cone and back,
carrying a pole between their legs. The teams must keep the pole
between its legs and no hands are allowed. The team to finish first
and with the pole still between its legs will win.
Softball Toss: Each teams best thrower
will attempt to get all 3 of their softballs into buckets ten yards
away. The first team to have all 3 in the bucket wins. (Bean Bag
Toss is also available)
Human Pyramid: The team must form a pyramid
with 3 on the bottom, 2 in the middle, and 1 on top. The team with
the fastest time wins.
Hula-Hoop Race: Teams line up facing one direction
and hold hands. Starting at one end with the hula-hoop, groups must
pass the hula-hoop from one to the other and back without releasing
hands. You must work together by squatting and lifting legs to allow
the hoops to be passed on from person to person. The group that
finishes first wins.
Balloon Pass Race**:
Each team must pass five inflated balloons from one end to the other
using only their knees. The "end person" must then sit
on and break the final balloon. The first group finished wins.
Orange Croquet: Each team member is fitted
with pantyhose tied around his/her waist with one leg of the hose
left to dangle in front filled with an orange. The key is to use
hip gyrations to create a pendulum effect to move the socked orange
and make it hit the orange "croquet ball" on the ground
form point A to point B, where another player awaits his/her turn.
The object is to have everyone in each group spread out evenly,
get the orange from one end to the other and back. The team finished
first wins.
Chronological Line-Up**: Each team (or
as one large group) will stand on a flat and long 4x4 piece of wood
in single file line. The facilitator will then ask the group to
line up by many different situations, such as by months of birth-dates,
height, shoe size, etc
The real challenge is that no one is
allowed to step off of the piece of wood when arranging the line-up.
Shoe Sort**: See how your feet measure
up to the rest. The task is to line your shoes up from largest to
smallest. Can you do it blind folded or with no talking?
Toss a Fact**: Learn a fact or tell a
fact about someone around you while throwing an object at the same
time. You will toss an object back and forth to each person in your
group as they share something about them selves. You will be expected
to repeat these facts at some point and time.
The Chain Ride**:
Each team stands in a line with a balloon between each member. The
challenge is to move form point A to point B, as a group, without
the balloons rising.
